Lets see how to make chicken biryani in electric cooker
Here I used 3/4 kg chicken and 3/4 kg rice
Decide the quantities of the chicken and rice based on your cooker capacity
Wash and soak the rice
We need to prepare 1 cup brown onions
Brown onions are a must for dum biryani
Fry 1 cup onions in oil till they turn brown
Lets marinate the chicken now
To cleaned chicken, add 2 teaspoons salt, 1 tablespoon lemon juice and mix
It will be better if you marinate the chicken in just salt and lemon for a few minutes beforehand
Lets add the masala now.
Add 3 teaspoons chilli powder, 2 teaspoons coriander seeds powder, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds powder, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/4 teaspoon garam masaala powder, 3 sliced green chilies, 1/4 cup coriander leaves, 1/4 cup mint leaves, 1/4 cup brown onions, 1/2 cup curd and mix
Also add 1 tablespoon oil, 1 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste and mix
Marinate the chicken for atleast an hour
Refrigerating it will be better
Firstly, lets cook the rice
Turn on the rice cooker and add water
For 2 cups rice, add 6-7 cups of water
Add 2 bay leaves, 1 teaspoon shahjeera, 3 cloves, 2-3 cinnamon stick pieces, 5 cardamoms, 1/2 star anise, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon oil, some coriander leaves, mint leaves and boil it
As the water starts to boil, add the soaked basmathi rice
Don't cook till the rice is completely cooked. Cook till the rice is 70% cooked
Drain off all the water and move the rice into a different bowl or strainer
To the electric cooker bowl, spread 2 tablespoons clarified butter (ghee) on the base without turning it on
Now, place the chicken on the base evenly along with 1/2 cup water
Sprinkle 1/4 cup coriander leaves, 1/4 cup mint leaves and brown onions
Then add 2 tablespoon clarified butter (ghee) on top
Add the rice and sprinkle the leftover coriander leaves, mint leaves, brown onions, some clarified butter (ghee) and close lid
Cook till the button flips to keep warm
Open lid. We can see that the rice is cooked completely
The mint leaves and coriander leaves have also changed colour
Chicken is also very nicely cooked
Seve hot with a gravy curry and raita!
