A Week of Breakfast Ideas for Kids

For kids we need to be able to give them food that is interesting for them to eat as well as be nutritious. Let's see 6 interesting healthy breakfast recipes for 6 days that are easy to make for parents.

Recipe Notes

Day 1 - Mini Idlis
Take some idli batter into a bowl and add salt. Pour this batter onto a mini idly plate. These plates will be available in any steel shop. Put this plate in an idli cooker or pour 1 glass water in a normal cooker, put the idli plates inside, close the lid without whistle and cook for 12-15 minutes like normal idlis. Serve with chutney or sambar.

Day 2 - Mini Dosa
Here the same idli batter is used. Add water and mix to dosa batter consistency. Dosa batter also could be used here. Heat a pan, add 1/2 spoon batter on it and spread it. Add oil. To make it more colourful, add chopped onion, green chillies (could be skipped), grated carrot, chopped coriander and press them lightly. Cook for 2-3 minutes and flip it.

Day 3 - Gunta Ponganalu
These could be made with idli or dosa batter. To the batter, add chopped onion, grated carrot, 1/2 teaspoon chopped ginger, chopped coriander, chopped green chillies(could be grinded into a paste or skipped), salt to taste and mix. Heat the gunta ponganalu pan and pour oil in each of the depressions. Pour batter. Don't pour the batter fully since it will rise up after cooking. Flip after it turns brown.

Day 4 - Pan cake
This is a sweet recipe. We'll need - 1 cup wheat flour, 1/2 cup sugar, milk, 2 tablespoons curd, a pinch of salt, a pinch of baking soda, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence. To a mixing bowl, add 1 cup wheat flour, 1/2 cup sugar or powdered jaggery, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, a pinch of baking soda and mix. Add a pinch of salt, 2 tablespoons curd, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence. Mix by adding milk slowly till dosa batter consistency is obtained. Water could be added. Heat a pan and pour this batter on the pan. Add some clarified butter(ghee) when small holes start to form. Flip after 3-4 minutes.

Day 5 - Chepathi Rolls
Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a pan. Add 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1/2 cup chopped onions and fry. Add 1 teaspoon chopped green chillies, carrots, capsicum, boiled peas, any other vegetables of your choice and fry. Close the lid and cook on low flame. After 3-4 minutes add tomato pieces and fry. Fry till tomatoes become soft. Add 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger, 1/2 teaspoon salt and close the lid. Add boiled chopped potatoes and mix. Close the lid. Add 1/2 teaspoon pepper powder and mix. Add coriander leaves and mix. Filling for chepathi rolls is ready. Make chepathis now. Take a small amount of chepathi dough and roll it. Heat a pan and cook chepathi. Flip after one side is cooked and apply clarified butter(ghee) or oil. Put the cooked chepathi into a plate, fill it with the prepared filling and roll it. Cut the filled chepathi into bite sized pieces.

Day 6 - Sandwich
Prepare bread sandwich with the same curry as chepathi roll. Take 2 bread slices. Apply sauce on one of the bread slices. Butter or clarified butter(ghee) or green chutney also could be used. Spread prepared curry on a different bread slice and cover it. Put these bread slices on a hot pan after adding butter. Apply butter on top also. Flip after the bread turns brown.
