Rava Chegodilu | Murukulu

Rava Chegodilu also known as Murukulu is crunchy snack from south India. A small shaped round rings, kid's love it and even elders relish it. This hot crunchy snack prepared during festivals and can beserved as Tea time Snack.

Ingredients

  • 4 Cups Upma Rava (Semolina)
  • 1 Cup Green Gram
  • 2 Tsp Red chili Powder
  • 2 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 4 Tsp Sesame Seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Carom Seeds
  • 6 Cups Water
  • Oil For deep frying

Instructions

  1. Prior we get into the recipe will soak the green gram for 15 Minutes.

  2. In a mixing bowl will take 1 kg (4 cups) of Semolina.

  3. Add 2 teaspoons of chili powder.

  4. Now lets add 2 teaspoons of salt as needed.

  5. Then add 1 teaspoon of Cumin Seeds.

  6. And then add 4 teaspoons of Sesame seeds.

  7. Now add ½ teaspoon of carom seeds and mix them all.

  8. In a pan add 6 cups of water and bring it to a boil.

  9. Lower the flame and add the soaked green gram.

  10. Now add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, I am adding it here as I forgot to add it to the semolina mixture.

  11. Now add semolina mixture slowly stirring constantly without lumps.

  12. Then place a lid and cook it on low flame for 5 to 6 minutes.

  13. Put off the stove now.

  14. Take a pan with oil for deep fry the Chegodilu / rings.

  15. Mould them like a small rings on a tray or on a lid.

  16. Will now deep fry a few on medium flame for a minute.

  17. Flip and turn them and fry till golden brown.

  18. We can see crunchy round rings, crispy and hallow.

  19. We can store them in an air tight containers for about 1 month.

  20. Rava Chegodilu / Murukulu is ready to eat as a snack during tea and coffee time
