Undralla Payasam

Undralla Payasam again Lord Ganesha’s favorite. Especially offered to him on Vinayaka Chavithi can be offered to him on sankashti too as Naivedyam. A yummy Kheer made with Wheat or Rice flour, Jaggery, or Sugar is used as a sweetener. Flavored with Ghee, Cardamom powder, and garnished with Nuts and Coconut Grate. A Mouth-watering recipe cooked in all south Indian households on the occasion of Vinayaka Chavithi.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Wheat Flour
  • 1 1/2 cup Jaggery Grate More or less can be used depending on your sweetness
  • 1/4 cup Rice Flour
  • a Pinch Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar Powered
  • 2 Tablespoons Ghee
  • Handful Cashews
  • Handful Raisins
  • Handful Fresh Coconut Pieces
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cardamom Powder

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl add 1 Cup of Wheat Flour a pinch of salt and 2 Tablespoon of Powdered sugar or normal sugar, Mix them well.

  2. Knead it into a tight dough adding water as needed.

  3. Now grease your hands and mold them in required shapes either Cylindrical or Small Balls.

  4. Dust a plate with some flour and place the molds on the plate to avoid sticking.

  5. In a pan heat 2 Tablespoon of Ghee and fry Dry Fruits of our choice, I am using Cashews and Raisins. And a few Fresh Coconut pieces to add a good flavor to the Payasam.

  6. In another pan add 4 cups of water and Undrallu, bring it to a boil on a medium flame for 10 minutes, stirring it when required.

  7. When they are cooked the Undrallu cut or break easily, just check them once and then add 1 ½ Jaggery grate or as per your taste.

  8. Let the Jaggery melt and boil it for 2 to 3 more minutes. Sugar can also be added.

  9. In a bowl mix ¼ Cup of Rice Flour with some water and add it to the undrallu and jaggery mixture, let it cook for a while on medium flame. Stirring it constantly.

  10. Now, add ½ Teaspoon of Cardamom Powder and garnish it with fried dry fruits, add some more Ghee to it.

  11. Our Yummy Undralla Payasam is ready to offer it to God and later have it too. A mouth-watering recipe.
