Ingredients

  • 2-3 tbsp  Groundnuts
  • 2 tbsp Bengal Gram
  • 2 tbsp Black Gram
  • 1 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 1/2 tsp Ginger Pieces
  • 2 pcs Dried Chilies
  • 5-6 pcs Green Chillies
  • 1/2 cup Curry Leaves
  • 1 kg Bombay Rava
  • 3 tsp Salt

Let’s see how to make instant upma mix

Just boiling this mix in hot water will make instant upma!
This recipe is very useful for bachelors, people staying far from home or in hostels and working women
Instant upma mix, once prepared, could be used for 1-2 months if stored in an air tight container
It can be used for upto 6 months if put in fridge
Let’s how to make this pre mix
Take a wide pan
Heat 1 tablespoon clarified butter (ghee) in the pan
Clarified gutter (ghee) or oil could be used here
Add groundnuts and fry till they change colour
Fry on low flame
Add 2 tablespoons bengal gram and 2 tablespoons black gram
Fry till they change colour slightly
Add 1 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds and fry
Add 1 1/2 teaspoon chopped ginger pieces and fry them in oil for some time
Add 2 dried chillies and fry for a minute
Dried chillies are to be added before the ginger pieces
Add 5-6 green chillies and fry for 1-2 minutes
Fry on low flame
Since this is an instant mix and we want these ingredients to have a log shef life, we fry it on low flame so that there is no moisture left in them and they stay for longer
Add curry leaves and fry till they turn crispy
Stir and fry so that the mix doesn’t burn off
Coriander leaves also could be added here
We can see that the curry leaves became crispy
Add bombay rava now
Fry the rava till it turns light brown
Add 3 teaspoons salt or salt to taste
Fry on low flmae only or else the base will burn off
Turn off the stove after it turns light brown
Let the mixture cool down and store it in an air tight container
This mix can be used for 1-2 months if stored in an air tight container
It can be used for upto 6 months if put in fridge

Let’s see how to make upma with this pre mix

Take as mich instant upma mix as desired into a bowl and add hot water to it
For 1 cup upma mix, add 3 cups hot water and mix
Close lid so that the water vapour doesn’t come out
Let it sit for 8-10 minutes, Upma is ready!
If there is some extra time and you are at home, juat heat 2 cups water in a bowl and add the instant upma mix
Here, for 1 cup mix, add 2 cups water
Close lid and cook
Clarifies butter (ghee) or coriander leaves also could be added
