Recipe Notes

INGREDIENTS

1. Broken Rice - 1  1/2 Cup

2. Bengal Gram - 2 Tablespoons

3. Salt - 1/2 Teaspoon

For broken rice - soak rice in water for 4 hours, drain water completely and grind it coarsly. To a bowl add 3 cups water. Here I took 3 cups water for 1 1/2 cup broken rice. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons bengal gram, close the lid and boil the water. Add 1 1/2 cup broken rice and mix so that no lumps are formed. Let the water boil for 5 minutes. Mix, cut off the flame, close the lid and let it sit for 5 minutes. Move this mixture into a plate. Wet your hands and make balls of desired size. A jaggery piece also could be put in the balls if wanted. Steam the balls. Spread ghee or oil on an idli plate. Place the prepared balls on the plate. Put 1 1/2 glass water in the cooker and put the idli plate on upper level. Steam on high flame for 10-15 minutes without a whistle. Cut off the flame and open the lid after 5 minutes.
