Kids fuss when asked to eat the leftover idly from the morning. Make these leftover idli recipes for a change. These idlis could be made into another breakfast or to a snack item
First lets see how to make Upma with Idli
This is a very easy recipe
Here I mashed 4 idlis for this recipe
Let’s see how to make upma
Heat 1 teaspoon oil in pan
Add 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon bengal gram, 1 teaspoon black gram and fry
Also add 2 teaspoons groundnuts and fry
Groundnuts are optional
Fry them for sometime and add 1 chopped onion
Also add 2 green chillies and fry
Then add curry leaves and mix
Add a pinch of turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt or salt to taste, 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste and mix
Now add mashed idlis and cook for a minute
Add Coriander leaves and serve hot!
Lets see how to make Fried Idli Now
These could be made with leftover idlis or fresh idlis
Cut the idlis in desired shape and size
The smaller, the better it will taste
Heat 1 1/2 teaspoon oil in pan
Then add 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds and fry
Add the idli cubes and stir for 3-4 minutes
then Stir and cook till the idlis change colour
Add 1/4 teaspoon salt, a pinch of turmeric powder, 1/4 teaspoon chilli powder and fry for a minute
Now add curry leaves and coriander leaves
then Fry till the curry leaves turn crispy and serve!
Since we are using very less oil, anybody can eat the dish.
Let’s see how to make crispy and tasty pakodas with leftover idlis
Here I have 4 idlis
The number of idlis used is upto you
Mash idlis in a mixing bowl
Add 1/2 cup bengal gram flour, 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped green chilli, 1/2 teaspoon salt or salt to taste, 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder, a pinch of
Then add turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, 1/2 cup chopped curry leaves, chopped coriander leaves and mix
There’s no need to add water unless the mixture is too dry
Even then 1-2 teaspoons of water will be enough
Lets make the Pakoras now
Heat oil for deep fry
Drop the prepared mixture little by little into the oil
Cook on medium flame and flip after 2-3 minutes
Flip and fry till they turn golden brown
Serve!
Let’s see how to make Idli Fingers
We have to prepare the masala first
To a bowl, add 1 teaspoon chilli powder, 1/4 teaspoon pepper powder, 1/4 teaspoon chat masala, 1/2 teaspoon salt and mix
Any other masala powders also could be added here
Cut the cooked idlis into fingers
We need to deep fry them now
Heat oil for deep fry
Fry the pieces one by one in oil
Flip and fry on low-medium flame till they turn dark brown
Move the fried pieces into a bowl
Sprinkle the prepared masala and toss it
Serve with chutney or sauce!
