Poornam Kudumulu
Poornam Kudumulu, Lord Ganesha’s favorite. A simple Naivedyam recipe for this festive season. A flavourful dish and a traditional one. Sweet Dumplings made with Rice Flour, Jaggery Grate, Bengal Gram, Cardamom Powder, and Ghee. They are also known as Modak simple and healthy recipe as it is steam cooked and well flavored as well.
- 1 Cup Rice Flour Soaked, Dried and Powdered
- 1/2 cup Bengal Gram
- 1/2 Cup Jaggery Grate
- 1 Teaspoon Ghee
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Coconut Grate Optional
- 1/2 Teaspoon Coconut Powder

For 1 cup of Rice Flour, wash and soak them for 2 hours, dry them for an hour and grind it into a fine powder or flour.

In a Cooker add ½ Cup of Bengal Gram with 2 Cups of Water and pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistles. For stuffing or for Poonam.

Put off the flame and let it cool. And will check if the dal is cooked thoroughly when we open the lid.

Open the lid, we can it cooked well. Drain off the excess water and mash the Bengal Gram Dal.

Switch on the stove add ½ Cup Jaggery grate to it, the jaggery starts melting.

Stir it constantly and cook it till it becomes a soft paste, thick consistency.

Add 2 Tablespoons of Coconut powder (optional) and ½ Teaspoon Cardamom Powder.

Mix them well and cook it till it becomes a thick paste, and place it aside for a while.

Now, to a pan add 1 Cup of water and bring it to a boil, add ½ Teaspoon of salt, and 1 Teaspoon of Ghee to it on low flame with a lid on it.

to the boiling water add 1 Cup of Soaked Rice Flour. For normal Rice flour, 2 Cups of Water should be used.

Mix it well and cook it thoroughly without any lumps into a soft dough put off the stove.

Now, will mold the Poornam or stuffing with the jaggery and Bengal Gram paste which we had prepared earlier.

Grease your hands and take small portions and mold or shape them into small balls and place them all on a plate.

Now, grease your hands with some ghee or oil take a small portion of rice flour dough and pat it into a small Poori.

Place the stuffing into the Poori and cover it well and shape it into a ball.

Place them all on a plate, now will steam them.

Will steam them either in a steamer or cooker, grease the idly stand or the sieve and, place them on it with some gaps.

Steam cook them on low flame for 10 Minutes. If we cook it for long they may crack.

Now, our Yummy Poornam Kudumulu is ready to be offered to Lord Ganesha.
